Day 3 - My Own Ideal Bookshelf

recieved the amazing My Ideal Bookshelf Book (buy it from Anthro here) for xmas which inspired me to put together my own ideal bookshelf.  it's not perfect, and truthfully the first time i've drawn anything in 5 or 6 years (GASP!)

  1. 1000 Greetings, recieved this book for xmas 6 years ago, and it really spurred on my love of greeting cards (huge fan of snail mail).
  2. Domino: The Book of Decorating.  It's Domino.  Enough Said.
  3. A Girl's Guide to Decorating, introduced me to using super dark colors in spaces, with pops of neon accents (abigail ahern is a genius).
  4. The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, a C.S. Lewis classic, reminds me of the imagination that we used to have as kids.
  5. The Hidden Staircase, I still say this is one of the scariest books I've ever read.  Nancy Drew is my hero and Best Friend.
  6. Pride and Prejudice, Marry me Mr. Darcy.

You're a gem!  Gave step by step instructions on how to draw the giant rock too... Thinking I want to try it in clay next (see here: http://www.creaturecomfortsblog.com/home/2012/8/29/diy-easy-geometric-gem-clay-mobile.html).

Obsessed with geometric shapes...

Two new ornaments in the shop, they're real 'gems'! The photo below was obvi taken with instagram (i'm new to instagram so be my friend and follow me? Slipcoveryourlife) which my brother describes as 'making everything look like it was shot in the 80s.'. Fortunately, I'm a diehard 80s lover!

Also, this whole post was written from my iPhone on the M5 bus. Fab or fail?

cb2 hack

couldn't resist hacking the metal wreath that I saw in the recent cb2 magazine.  i ordered their old fashion lights (24.95) and bought a florist wreath at michaels (3.95) which i spray painted with a white gloss (6.95).  i love it so much i think i'm going to leave it up year round!

Wedding Wednesday #1 - Semi-homemade Save the Dates

So craft Tuesday to come tomorrow (I just need to photograph it).  In the meantime, I'm publishing my first Wedding Wednesday!

Weddings these day can get so expensive (god, when did I start sounding like my dad?)  I think it's important to pick the aspects that are important to spend your money on, and the aspects that are NOT as important..

Speaking of, I stumbled across Love vs. Design where you don't have to sacrifice either, Love or Design! They offer two options for Save the Date cards, 1) They will design and print them for you at an extremely affordable price or 2) They will design it for you and you can get it printed elsewhere!  Included some of my favorite designs below, and you can see that you're not sacraficing QUALITY for their super awesome prices!

Monday Mash-up #2 - my first illustrator inspiration board?

so I have continued to take Alt classes, and the one I took last week was how to use Illustrator and Photoshop to create Inspiration boards.  I consider myself generally pretty computer savy (actually graduated with a comp sci degree) but when it comes to any sort of graphic program, the farthest I have gotten is using Paint.Net.

below is my first inspiration post using Illustrator.  How did I do?  I did cheat at the end as I couldn't figure out how to get the numbers on the image in Illustrator so I saved it, opened it in Paint.Net, resaved it and loaded it here...

have another class this week so hopefully i get better!

alt channel awesomeness...

to say i've been stressed out (and a bit unhappy) in my life recently is to say the least.  work is work, with tons of long hours and travel.  i originally created this blog (and then business) to have an outlet for the creative side of me.

i wasn't able to attend alt summit last January, but recently took their class on pinterest which basically changed my life.  following suite, i just took their class on organization last week.  one of the most amazing (and hopefully life changing) suggestions that they had was to come up with an 'editorial calendar.'

at first I was scared.  my blog is supposed to be fun, free willed, uncontained.  but I am also an organization freak, loving when everything has a place, and everything is IN its place.

so here goes it, the Slipcover Your Life Blog Editorial Calendar (I have a minor obsession with alliteration so forgive the obvious)...

  • Mashup Monday - stuff that has caught my eye recently, with a possible theme, or maybe no theme at all!
  • DIY Craft Tuesday - with original content!
  • Wedding Wednesday - After doing some of my friends weddings recently, i'm taking a stab at getting into the wedding buz!
  • Thursday's Interiors - I originally started this blog to focus on my love of interiors
  • Fashion Friday - Because some of the best art out there is what we wear!

Let's see how this goes...

stunning before and after...

i've been poking around the interwebs looking for inspiration for my bedroom (large for nyc apartment standards, high ceilings, radiator, pipe, blah...)

stumbled across the DIY image on Apartment Therapy (from 2008?  did people actually blog in 2008?) and fell in love...

i'm so lucky and grateful...

for the amazing opportunities that have come my way.  this whole cross stitch business fills the design void in my life, and i'm so grateful for everyone who has supported it along the way!

speaking of, just got featured in the most recent issue of the Cross Stitch Collection!  Thanks to the Cross Stitch Collection, and MisoFunky for helping me along this journey!
